From influencer communes to sold-out tour venues

Hundreds of thousands of followers see these social media stars on screens every single day, but during autumn 2022 it was also possible to experience them live. The Meemitalo influencer community started its debut tour, Meemitalo Tour, in September, with a sold-out show at Lahti's Sibelius Hall in front of an audience of a thousand. The tour culminated in a sold-out show at Seinäjoki's Rytmikorjaamo. In between, visits were also made to Hyvinkää, Mikkeli, Tampere, and Kuopio. Five out of six events were sold out. The tour featured popular members of the Meemitalo influencer community: Niko and Santtu, Ella and Helmi, Mr. Zeus, Weksi, Nino Ärling, Arttu Laitinen, Katja Hiltunen, and Veetu Vuori.

So what was it really about? The same good-humored silliness, fun, and above all being together that many young people have become accustomed to daily through various social media platforms. The stage show was a mixture of live music, dances familiar from TikTok, competitions, interactive challenges with the audience, and a considerable amount of skillful improvisation. The Meemitalo Tour events were crowned with Meet & Greet meetings, where fans got to meet their favorite influencers and take photos together. At least in these moments it was clear how eager fans had been longing for live meetings and a physically sensory and experiential show experience.

It remains to be seen whether Meemitalo Tour will continue due to the high demand. However, it can be stated that this is something of a major phenomenon that has bewildered the event industry. It will also be interesting to see if other social media influencers will tour event halls or clubs in the future. It should be noted, of course, that not all people who appear on screen to a large audience necessarily enjoy performing live. In the case of Meemitalo members, performing seems to be a very natural and pleasant way for them to express themselves.

Meemitalo is Finland's first influencer community and workspace established on such a large scale, consisting of ten popular YouTubers and TikTokers. Meemitalo members have a combined following of over three million on social media. Niko and Santtu founded Meemitalo in 2020. The Meemitalo space itself is located in Tampere and includes a mini ramp, trampoline, foam pit, recording studio, and game room. Meemitalo is a shared recording and workspace for members, where many popular YouTube videos, challenges, and TikTok clips are created.
